VII. Review
"Boo" is a multilingual movie that Vijay wrote and directed. It has a conventional haunted home plot and uses clichés common to the horror genre. Instead of relying heavily on its plot, the movie makes better use of its outstanding cast, which also includes Rakul Preet Singh, Vishwak Sen, Nivetha Pethuraj, Megha Akash, Reba Monica John, Manjima Mohan, Vidya Raman, and Prudhvi Raj.
The entire cast gives respectable performances, with Rakul Preet Singh as the hyperactive Kiara, who alternates between laughing and screaming in terror. The part of Akash, a more reserved paranormal researcher, is played by Vishwak Sen. In addition to Reba Monica John, Nivetha Pethuraj, Megha Akash, and others give strong performances.
Particularly in its Halloween-themed parts, the movie appears to be influenced by Anthony C. Ferrante's 2005 American horror film "Boo." With chapters labeled Hiccups, Soul Trapper, Uninvited Guest, Asthma, a Few Months Later, and The next bride chosen for Him, Vijay's "Boo" employs an intriguing novel as a storytelling mechanism. The characters shown in these chapters, who are portrayed by Vishwak Sen, Nivetha Pethuraj, and Megha Akash, blur the borders between past and present events. While some of the movie's scenes are amusing and terrifying, others can come off as corny and ridiculous.
The excerpts from the book are engaging, but the moments in the haunted home with the four friends could have been written and performed more skillfully. Nevertheless, the music and imagery in the movie help to create a moody atmosphere. Sandeep K Vijay shot the movie, and Anthony edited it. GV Prakash Kumar composed the music.
In conclusion, "Boo" is a conventional horror movie that isn't overly serious. It combines humor and enjoyable components, making it appropriate for a group of friends seeking a scary movie to see together. However, this movie might not be the best option for you if you're looking for a truly horrifying encounter.
